There are numerous cosmopolitan cafes, bars and restaurants in the Marina, together with cash machines and phones.

Atlantic fish - cod, tuna, sardines - are sold in the morning markets and appear later on restaurant menus, together with local specialities such as chicken piri piri. Vinho verde, from the north, is a fresh, almost fizzy, young white wine. Try the chilled almond liqueur Amarguinha or a glass of brandy mel - a mixture of brandy and honey.

Lagos boasts over 200 bars, restaurants and cafes with some of the best within the marina itself.

It is a gentle 5 minute scenic stroll across the river and footbridge to the bustling town of Lagos. Lagos has a daily fresh fish market, artisan shops with pottery and clothing bargains and many small craft shops. The historic old town is steeped in over a thousand years of history, and many ancient buildings remain which stand testament to its colourful past as the link between Europe and Africa.

Just a few minutes walk away is the 18 hole Palmares golf course overlooking the Bay of Lagos and one of the most beautiful in the Algarve. Five of the holes are played on the sand dunes and the fifth, a par 5 of 550 metres is a real challenge. The 18 hole Boa Vista course is a short drive away and within 15 minutes are some of the finest courses in Portugal. There are 5 well-known golf courses in the Lagos area, Palmares, being the nearest, then going west to Boa Vista & Parque da Floresta, the latter being a 15 minute drive away. Towards the east side, there are the Penina & Alto golf courses, again a 20 minute drive away.
